FLY OUT - CHATEAU LES CROSTES VINEYARD

July 10th-12th 2015   - Provence, South eastern France

The upcoming fly-out of Aéro-Sport brings us to the Var region in Provence (southern France)

On Friday July 10th, you’ll fly to Cannes-Mandelieu at the French Riviera, where you’ll check in at the Campanile Hotel Cannes Quest at walking distance of the Cannes – Mandelieu Airport. The hotel has a nice swimming pool area.

On Saturday morning July 11th after breakfast, our tour bus picks us up at 09.30am at the hotel for a day trip in the Var region with the following highlights:

Visit of the “Chateau les Crostes” vineyard nearby Lorgues , where His Royal Highness Prince Félix of Luxembourg (Prince of Nassau, Prince of Bourbon-Parma) lives with his family.

HRH Prince Félix of Luxembourg
The vineyard is situated on an extensive property amid 220 hectares of forest nearby Lorgues. The wonderful views and the location are unlike any other in the Provence Alps. Chateau Les Crostes in was completely renovated recently and is now open to the public for a luxury winery Chateau Holiday.

This 17th Century Chateau is situated in the heart of the forest, completely surrounded by olive trees and by 55 hectares of vineyards.  The true tastes you will experience are those of a long tradition at this winery, one that has lasted for centuries and is now being reinvented, to give you a taste of the old while all the time combining new flavors and richness.

By the time we leave the Chateau de Crostes, it will be around lunch time. That's why we'll continue our journey towards the village of Tourtour: this village perched at an altitude of 635 m, it is easy to see why Tourtour is nicknamed "the village in the sky of Provence". The stone houses topped with round tiles, Place des Ormeaux and its fountain, the arched passageways and narrow streets bathed in sunlight amid countryside of vineyards, lavender and pine trees: nothing is missing !

Later in the afternoon, we'll visit the "Thoronet Abbey". This is a former Cistercian abbey built in the late twelfth and early thirteenth century, now restored as a museum. Le Thoronet Abbey is one of the best examples of the spirit of the Cistercian order. Even the acoustics of the church imposed a certain discipline upon the monks; because of the stone walls, which created a long echo, the monks were forced to sing slowly and perfectly together.

By 6.00 pm, we expect to return to our hotel, where you can refresh yourself prior that our bus takes us at 7.30 pm to a special restaurant, for a pilots dinner offered by Aérosport member Gilbert Poitiers. Thank you Gilbert !

You’ll return by taxi on your own to your hotel.

On Sunday July 12th, planes are refuelled at Cannes Mandelieu airport prior to fly back home to Luxembourg or you can extend your stay at the French Riviera

No VFR weather

We had some bad luck with our season opener to Texel. The weather was definitively not VFR and all our pilots have been cancelling.... too bad.
Let's hope our upcoming event (static display event May 1 and fly out to the Champage region) will benefit of CAVOK weather

Memorial Tourist Flight Hans Gutmann 2015

Every year, pilots from all over Europe fly together across borders to countries all over Europe. Flying that way, they pay a tribute to the late Hans Gutmann, the famous and renowned Austrian airman, who organised so many long-range trips. Jean Birgen, as Technical Officer FAI-GAC and board member of Aéro-Sport and UPL-AOPA Luxembourg, has taken over the charge to organize the annual longe-range rally. The next rally, which will take place July 01. – July 04. 2015, is being put together.

Pilots coming from everywhere in Europe

Our base, for 4 days, will be the airfield Jakabszallas (LHJK), Hungary, and we will stay in the Aero-Hotel.

Jakabszallas airfield is located near Balaton Sea, south of Budapest. No crews, even those coming from North or South of Europe, will have to cross the Alps. Services are available, hangars, maintenance, fuel, etc.

During four days, we will fly day trips to airfields in neighbour countries: Austria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia and Poland.

Pilots can choose their preferred destinations, and participate in parts of the rally only.

local fly outs
We expect to maximize meetings with friends from local aero-clubs, Aeronautical Federation (FAI), European Powered Flying Union (EPFU), Europe Air Sports (EAS), Aircraft Owner and Pilot Association (AOPA), Ultra Lights (ULM), Home Build (RAS), etc.

Touristic flying activities will be organized every day, with one short and /or longer trip to touristic highlights, Air Museum, aircraft manufacturers, Hangar 7/8 Red Bull, in Salzburg, or the Red Bull Air Race 4 July, in Budapest. All evenings, events will be organized, including meals and drinks. The Aero-Hotel has restaurants, a swimming pool, bowling, fitness, sports centre, tennis fields, pilot bar, active relaxation and touristic organisations. (www.aerohotel.hu).

The FAI General Aviation Commission fully supports this long range Memorial Tourist Flight, to promote flying, air sports and air friendship, in the same spirit Hans Gutmann did for so many pilots.

SEASON OPENER 2015

Luxembourg -– Lelystad (Ehle) – Luxembourg  (250 Nm)

Sunday morning flight (175NM) to Lelystad airfield (EHLE)  on the dutch Flevoland peninsula

Visit of and lunch at the Aviodrome museum

Lelystad at the dutch Flevoland peninsula
Here we’ll visit the Nationaal Luchtvaart-Themapark Aviodrome (short also Aviodrome), which is a large aerospace museum in the Netherlands that has been located on Lelystad Airport since 2003. Previously the museum was located at Schiphol Airport.

On its current location there are three buildings: the main building where most of the aircraft on display are located and where there's a restaurant and a cinema, a replica of the old Schiphol terminal building from 1928 and a hangar for aircraft storage with limited access for visitors. Added to the aviation theme were several artifacts from several Dutch space programs, such as the backup flight-article of ANS (Astronomical Netherlands Satellite), a mockup of IRAS and the high-speed windtunnel model of the Huygens probe. In doing so the aviation museum became an aerospace museum.

We’ll enjoy lunch at the Aviodrome theme park prior to head back to our planes and fly back home to Luxembourg .

There are 7 suites available for our club, rooms are distributed on first come, first serve basis (depending your date of reservation at info@aerosport.lu )

Optional activities:
-    Cycling: Recuperate your bike at the airfield (classic, tandem or electrical).   For those who rather cycle there are lots of beautiful cycle paths on the island. Texel offers 140 km of cycling paths and some are beautiful routes. A real recommendation is the cycle path alongside the Wadden Sea. Here you can cycle over the dyke, looking out over the water, with the sound of the sea in your ears. The old aalenburgerdijkje between De Koog and Den Burg is also a beautiful route. Near De Koog and Den Hoorn you'll find lovely cycle paths along the dunes...and if you want a rest there's always an inviting terrace or café to be found along the way.

-    Walking: Texel can best be discovered by foot or bicycle. In this way you'll find the most beautiful locations. And you'll have plenty of time to experience the sounds, scents and colours of the Texel countryside. You can choose a route before you set out or find your way ‘en route'. There are many “Wandelen_duinensignposted” footpaths
-    Excursions: You'll enjoy our vast nature reserves and the unique flora and fauna on Texel whilst going on excursion with a guide.  A large number of excursions is available. For information and reservations please take a look at the website of Ecomare (you have to book an excursion by yourself)
-    Museums: Texel's fascinating past is evident across the island. From the small boulders on the beach to the bullet holes in the lighthouse, questions arise at various places. The inhabitants of Texel are keen to describe the history of their island in the six museums on the island. Wonderful stories, about seals, beachcombing and a seaman's life
-    Shopping: Den Burg is the 'capital' of the island with various unique shops. You could enjoy a nice shopping tour. Lovely old fashioned grocer or a modern department store. There's something for everyone!
-    Sports: There is an amazing range of activities on Texel. Have you always wanted to try parachute jumping? Now's your chance! For those who rather keep two feet on the ground there is a 9-hole golf course in the dunes.  The sea and the vast beaches are a true challenge for beach and water sport enthusiasts.

-    Confirmed activity: Saturday April 25th at 2pm: visit the now world famous “Wezenspyk cheese farm” (11km or 35 minutes by bike from our hotel airfield), who won in 2014 the prestigious “super gold” title at the World Cheese award with their Texelse Orekees. (11km or 35 minutes by bike from our hotel airfield).A one hour guided tour is scheduled where you’ll have the opportunity to taste their award winning cheeses and maybe purchase some of their cheeses to take back home to Luxembourg. Sheep cheeses are Wezenspyk's speciality. They have been making sheep cheese for 500 years on Texel. Besides sheep cheese, Wezensheep claims to offer delicious cow cheese and goat cheeses.
The guided degustation tour starts at 2pm (as the farm closes after 4pm)

(Cheese farm Wezenspyk - Hoornderweg 29 in Den Burg - Texel. If you get lost by bike, please call +31 (222) 31.50.90)
